Xbox marks distances with virtual reality, Phil Spencer ensures being focused on the most traditional software
Xbox has taken a clear commercial strategy in recent years. Game Pass and the game services in the cloud have made the Green brand define very well within the videogame market.
On the other hand, PlayStation has opted for virtual reality and its long-term possibilities. The two strategies are differentiated, but that does not mean that one can not enter the field of the other.
Xbox will bet on virtual reality at some point ? It is a question that has already been commented and to which the Phil Spencer has responded in the past.
However, Xbox has been talking about the theme with Wall Street Journal on a Tech Live Event. It does not seem that the company will be interested in that sector.
Spencer was in favor of what he was doing PlayStation on VR, but he claimed that Xbox had his own interests and that for the moment, virtual reality is not a priority.
We feel firmly on this software platform and the devices that will allow it, but we are much more focused on the software side at this time.
I think that hardware innovation that is happening is excellent and is an important factor, but at this moment I am deciding to stay more on the side of the software that we know. I think it will be better in the long term Spencer explained in relation to VR technology.
It seems that Spencer does not rule out this option, but if he bet on it, it may be much later. What do you think about virtual reality?
Meanwhile, today we have been able to know that Xbox Game Pass accumulates 37 million subscribers, but is far from the goal set by Microsoft, according to Axios. The October games have already been announced.
