World Cup plans of FIFA: IOC expresses concerns

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is critical to the plans of the FIFA Football World Association for a Men s World Cup in the two-year rhythm. The IOC Executive joined the far-reaching concerns of the sports world in a Note published on Saturday in Athens against the reform plans of FIFA boss Gianni Infantino.

The IOC shares these concerns and supports the call to representatives of football, international sports associations and major events on other consultations with the involvement of athlete representatives, which apparently did not yet take place, said it in the opinion.

The IOC referred to three aspects: the negative impact of a two-year World Cup on other sports, those on gender equality due to the even more powerful position of the footballers and those on the health of footballers in the face of even greater load.
