Meyer: I want a mum and prospective doctor 2024 an Olympia
Since then, since Formula Kite 2024 is belonging to the Olympic Sail Program in Paris, the dream of Meyer is alive from an Olympic medal. There was nothing changed for the budding physician, even if she has become mother for the first time in early May.
Leonie, first of all, congratulations on the birth of your son! How is it going?
We are overjoyed with our little Levi. And I'm fine now. Actually, as a athlete, you think that you can kill a lot, especially since I was superfit in pregnancy and still drove to the hospital by bike. Nevertheless, I could not stand for more than five minutes for the first two weeks after birth. But now it's much better. A few days ago I was even the first time on the water, together with my friend.
Who has taken care of your child in time?
My mother was with him in the carrying strap on the beach. That was the way we had thought about how it will lead to competitions in the future. However, I was not kiting yet, because we achieve speeds of over 60km / h, and if you crash, you will be slowed to zero. I did not want to take the risk yet, but now it's going to go back with the workout.
In addition to baby and top sport, the medical studies are also available, which you have so far completed in regular study time. How does this work?
For me, the second state examination is on in October. Now it is called only learning, learning, learning. Or breastfeeding, wrapping, learning and training. (laughs) No, seriously: There are learning plans appropriate for the exam, eight hours a day, 100 days in a piece. In order to have time for baby and sport, I started earlier. My last presence event at the university I had a few days ago, all the prescribed internships I have already preferred, so I can divide my time so freely. We are also location independent of our van. Everything goes in what you need to kiting and also the baby stuff still have enough space. Already in recent years, I've learned to my first state exam: parked on the beach, learned in the morning and in the evening and trained on the water in between.

Leonie Meyer: Would like to show that you can combine sports and studies

Keyword Presence events: How has that been combined in the previous semesters with training and competitions?
From the university in Kiel our training spot is only 20 minutes away, it hardly works better. Only in winter at 2 ° Celsius it is not so fun there, I'd rather be in New Zealand. However, I then sat there at the beginning of the pandemic last year and came first four weeks later through a return campaign of the Federal Government home. But what the exemption for competitions is concerned: that was actually partially a problem. We had no cadre status until the end of 2020, because the Olympic four-year cycle has begun this year. This sometimes it was not so easy to get free at the university. My luck was that the big competitions usually occurred in the semester break.
The missing cadrime status has also resulted in the consequence that as a kite athletes: inside no fixed national coach or trainer.
We are pretty much the only nation that has no solid coach. Unfortunately, unfortunately, it was not taken care of it in good time, which is now an extreme disadvantage over other nations. England, Poland or France are there for years ahead. Only at the European Championships last year we got a true coryphous in sailing to our side by the association. The silver medal was therefore all the more valuable.
What else does the support look like?
Due to the new squad status, we can receive sport aid promotion and also the Deutsche Bank sport scholarship. Without this support I would have to work as a kite teacher and could not study parallel to the sport. But so I look at optimistic about the next time. My goal is to stand at the 2024 Olympics with child on the podium. And then I then do my practical year as a doctor.
