Paralympics should take place largely without viewers
After completion of the Olympic Games, the Paralympics are available from 24th August - also in Tokyo. The city is currently struggling again with the Corona pandemic, while Olympia had more than doubled the number of daily new infections. This is mainly due to the delta variant. On Friday, the Japanese capital reported the highest level since the outbreak of pandemic - 5773 cases within 24 hours.
Therefore, the spectators are to be largely excluded at the Paralympics, which was already the case with the summer games in the end. According to Japanese, the decision at a meeting of the organizers with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the government in Tokyo is expected.
Previously, IPC President Andrew Parsons had reaffirmed, the Paralympics could certainly be organized like Olympia: "The games have shown that the measures against CovID-19 work." He wanted to provide the makers of the upcoming event confidence, yet one should not be comfortable. "We can not ignore the current case numbers in Japan and Tokyo," Parsons said. Each participant must be caution and strictly adhered to the Corona Rules.
