Now that the Super Nintendo turns 30, remember why it is the best game console ever created
Today 30 years ago, on August 23, 1991, the first Super Nintendo consoles began to appear released in North America. This was the audacious debut of Nintendo in 16 bits, and even today, few consoles can boast of such an incredible and timeless alignment of classics as cold as the stone. Most Americans obtained their new and bright SNES on their official launch date at the national level on September 9. But for the lucky few who managed to get an early one, that week of August must have been quite special.
The SNES was a technical wonder. With its technology Mode 7, the developers were able to double, rotate and twist pixels to create the entire enthusiasm: something with which the rival Sega Genesis could only dream. This was used with great effect on racing games such as Mario Kart and F-Zero, the Pilotwings flight simulator and an amazing revolving level in Super Castlevania 4.

Some great SNES developers even found ways to include additional graphics hardware on the game's own cartridges, hugely expanding the possibilities of the console. The most famous example of this was the super fx chip, which made possible 3D games such as Star Fox. Primitive for modern standards, but absolutely amazing at that time.
