Exception zverev: 36 of 37 Olympic medals went to a funded athlete
Currently or formerly funded athletes and athletes have won 36 of 37 German medals at the Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo 36. Corresponding figures published the foundation German sports aid on Thursday.
The only exception is Tennis Olympic Champion Alexander Zverev. The 24-year-old Hamburg was never in a funding program of sports aid. 82 percent of all athletes who enjoyed a special elite development achieved a placement under the first eight in Tokyo.
"Without the support of our partners, the financial and ideal promotion of Germany's best top athletes would not be possible. Especially in the Corona pandemic and after the shift of the Olympic Games, we felt the solidarity of our partners," said Thomas Berlemann, CEO of the Germans Sport aid.
