Bandai Namco takes off in the first quarter, but not thanks to the video game - News - Bandai NAMCO

Bandai NAMCO has unveiled its results for the tax quarter ended June 30, 2021. If the Group has strong growth in late year, the video game is this time not to credit for this rebound.

The growth displayed in these results does not really reflect the current dynamics of the video game. This increase in sales and earnings, Bandai NAMCO owes it to the TOYS and HOBBY AND VISUAL AND MUSIC PRODUCTION segments that rebounded sharply after being allocated last year by sanitary measures. The network entertainment segment, which includes video game, is actually down sharply with an operational profit of 91 million euros against 145 million euros a year earlier. This does not preclude that, depending on the goals, the video game should end the fiscal year with the largest operating profit of the group around 308 million euros.

ONE IN A MILLION - Ghost Recon Wildlands Results of Bandai Namco

Period | Turnover | Operational Profit | Net profit --- | --- | --- | --- April 2020 - June 2020 | 1.1 billion euros | 153.4 million euros | 101.5 million euros April 2021 - June 2021 | 1.3 billion euros | 208.2 million euros | 161.2 million euros

Bandai Namco distributed 10 million games in the world between April and June 2021, compared with 9 million last year in the same quarter. The notable outflows of these last months include Scarlet Nexus and Guilty Gear Strive , waiting for titles like Tales of Arise and Super Wars 30 . Over the entire fiscal year, the Group plans to distribute less games than last year, namely 33.5 million against 41.5 million. Note, however, that last year's figure was well helped by the launch of CyberPunk 2077 of which Bandai Namco is the distributor in Europe. This time, the star of the fiscal year is definitely named Elden Ring , whose exit is (strongly) expected on January 21, 2022.

On the whole group, all products combined, the franchise Dragon Ball generated a turnover of 193 million euros. It ahead Gundam (185 million euros) and One Piece (77 million euros). According to the objectives, these three franchises will once again form the final podium (in that order) over the entire fiscal year.
